The art of Helena Lam

Hello my dears!
This time I am going to share with you the fb I made for my partner. The theme was the art of Helena Lam. As per usual, I tried to use the same colours as the picture, and play around with the shapes. :) I got this as a result. What do you think?

Breaking the rules is always fun

So, I was supposed to make a grey and pink HQ friendship book for me and one for my partner. Seeing that I wanted to do a Devil May Cry fb, I kind of broke the rules, and kind of didn't. I chose the appropriate picture in order to be able to decorate it with pink and grey. ;) I love pictures that are just on this side of inappropriate, without being completely inappropriate.

Sunset fb

Next subject I chose for Exclusive HQ fbs was sunset. I love sunsets and their orgiastic palette of colours, so I was more than happy to make two sunset fbs, one for me, one for my partner.
This is the fb I made for my partner. I tried to deviate from the usual way I make fbs, and I think I made it! What do you think of the result?

Antique Keys

Next subject I chose for Exclusive HQ Fbs was Antique/ Ornate keys. As per usual, I made one fb for me and one for my partner. This is the fb I made for me:

To see a larger version of the pictures: click on the picture,  then right mouse click, choose View Image and press the  little magnifying glass.

Then I made an fb for my partner with a picture she liked.
You can see it here!

This is the back of my partner's fb. The front (see link above) is similar, but it looks so much better! :)

I come across a lot of beautiful fbs in the swaps I receive. These are not made by me, but they they are too pretty not to share them with you. I asked their makers and they were OK with it, and therefore decided to add an extra photo or two in every blog entry I write. So here goes, pink prettiness:

Cybergoth fb

Hello again!
Next friendship book theme I chose to make for Dark'n'Gothic FB swappers was Cybergoth. I downloaded some pictures for myself and again asked my partner what she would like made for her. Thankfully, this time the picture was dark blue! Thank God(s). So I made this for myself, and being legendary absent-minded, I forgot to take pictures BEFORE I put the plastic on! I will also readily admit it was late and I had no idea what I was doing.

Then I made a second fb for my partner. I love how it turned out! I used some of my favourite colours because the photo allowed it.

Ouija board

You remember me telling you in the previous post that I joined two different crafting groups on Facebook, right? One group is more mainstream. Feel free to join too if you make High Quality fbs. Here is the link. You will have to show photos of your fbs to the administrator in order to verify you can make HQ. Other than that and being able to post worldwide and in a timely fashion, no other requirements are needed.

I joined the second group because it has darker themes. Deadlines are much more lax and you have the option to either make Nice and Neat fbs or HQ fbs. If you are interested, give it a go. Both groups are very friendly places and both administrators are nice people.

If you need to see the differences between HQ and NN fbs you can check my post here.

So, the first theme for the second group was Ouija board.  I asked my partner to send me a picture she liked to turn it into an fb for her. And she went and did it! She send me a mustard brown picture. Gasp! 😱 😖 😭 It belongs to my dark trinity, a.k.a. colours I don't use when I craft. The list of abominable colours is brown, green and orange. I stay away from them in my crafting. If it fits the picture I'll obviously use it, but in another case, dear God no.

I bit the bullet, told myself to shut up, and started making her Ouija board fb. After all, the reason I joined the groups was to make something different than I usually do, experiment, become better. So I made this.

Absent-mindedness at its finest

I made this fb, took photos of the inside and back, mailed it off... and belatedly realised I had not taken any photos of the front. Well done! So I told my swappers to keep an eye in case they found it in one of their swaps. Thankfully one did, and she sent it back so that I could take photos.
Yes, this is the third Sephiroth fb I've made. Yes, I still want to date the lunatic bastard, but he won't return my calls. Men. They only want you if you remind them of their mommy.
This is the front. Unfortunately, I had already covered it in plastic when I took photos, so the colours aren't as bright and clear as they would have been without the plastic.

Toward new crafting adventures!

I decided to join two different crafting groups on Facebook. They are both run by swappers who are also penpals of mine. For those of you who don't know, these groups operate by regular swaps, usually monthly. Themes are selected, and members choose the theme(s) they want to participate in. Then every member has to make one High Quality (or Nice and Neat) fb for themselves and one for the person from the group they are partnered to.

The reason I decided to join these groups is that, if left to my own devices, I'll keep making Tokio Hotel fbs till kingdom come. Crafting groups are a good opportunity to try one's crafting abilities on different themes and colours than they'd usually choose. The reason I had not joined any groups until now is that stress is my worst enemy. It kills my creativity and makes me hate what I normally love. Nothing stresses me more than deadlines, so joining groups did not seem a good idea. I am still not completely certain it was a good idea. For the time being I go with the flow. If I get so stressed I can't follow, I'll just leave, but I'll cross that bridge when I get there.

So the first theme I chose was Steampunk. I made one HQ fb for myself and one for my partner. This is the fb I made for myself.

I try to keep the back simple because it takes forever to make HQ fbs. The finished result may look straightforward enough, but finding matching colours, deciding on a design, finding the appropriate border stickers and embellishments and finally covering the fb by plastic is very, very hard. As to why I bother when so many items get damaged or lost in the post, damned if I know.

Spring in the summer

I made this friendship book to celebrate spring, or so I say. In reality I just adore paper flowers and if I could, I'd stick multicoloured glittery paper flowers even on my nose. So I took a picture of Mahafsoun, who is an artist, belly dancer, model and all around beauty (you can find her work here) and used it to make the following fb. Paper flowers make me happy, did I happen to mention that? 😁

Here is the cover:

I have no recollection what else I was doing while making it. Probably eating paper flowers when I thought no-one was watching.  😜

Three witches

I found the stunning cover picture in an advertisement for Gala Nocturna. It was love at first sight! The three women are most likely dancers/ performers for the evening, but inspiration has its own laws and the mind is amazing at making associations and leaps and giving new meaning. So for me they are witches performing a ritual, and that was that.

I'm very happy with how this friendship book turned out. This is the front:

Made while watching Peaky Blinders, which unfortunately I found too slow for my liking. More fbs will follow soon!
Oh, and by the way! Today was the birthday of both Christopher Lee and Vincent Price (27/5). I guess uploading a witch fb is very appropriate... 👿

Pink is the nicest colour

I don't know what other people say, but for me pink is downright gorgeous. (After black and purple, of course. Let's not forget I am primarily a black-loving person). It looks good on most people and it is a very easy-going colour. It can be combined with a lot of other hues. This can serve as an explanation why I was so tickled to do the following fb. 😀 The metal key was a nice touch, too.

To see a larger version of the picture: click on the picture, then right mouse click, choose View Image and press the little magnifying glass.

Again I had to use non-sticky plastic for this fb as the embellishments are bulky. Here is the inside:

 And the back:

The model can be found here. He's quite feminine, but then again, this should come as no surprise, as I love androgynous and gender fluid individuals. (See three zillion Tokio Hotel fbs in my previous entries. 😉)

Tokio Hotelitis

Could be a name for an affliction... I'm certainly afflicted. To cut a long story short, here is the last Tokio Hotel HQ friendship book (for now). It was a black and white photo and I decided to play along these lines with plenty of silver instead of white:
